The re-election of Joseph Kabila on Friday night was followed by violence; the authorities have reported four people killed by security forces. The opposition contested the results of the presidential election.

Diplomats were considering it, when the opposition was asking African mediation before the situation would deteriorate again. Names began to circulate. Kofi Annan was said to have declined; and the names of John Kufuor, Desmond Tutu, Amadou Toumani Touré and Alpha Oumar Konaré were discussed.

President Joseph Kabila acknowledged mistakes but said they were not of the kind to invalidate the election results. Addressing the diplomatic corps, President Kabila said he did not want an external mediation. He said there is a national committee for mediation, but everyone seems to forget about it.

This is, however, far from being the view of everyone, especially Vital Kamerhe. The opposition candidate came third with 7.54% of the vote of the vote and appealed to the Supreme Court.

Minister Lambert Mende, spokesman of the government said that, the view of the opposition does not change in view of a Supreme Court decision. Lambert Mende said that a court decision would not change the final result, namely the election of Joseph Kabila. The opposition, however, has not abandoned the idea of taking to the street even before the end of the Supreme Court hearing.

The results of the presidential elections are "not consistent with truth and justice" said the Catholic archbishop of Kinshasa, Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo. According to archbishop, Marini Bodho the national president of the Protestants congregation, the people have invested their confidence in Joseph Kabila who must meet the challenges of the people.
