The ICC prosecutor will investigate crimes committed in Côte d'Ivoire

Asset Publisher

The ICC prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo will investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the post-election crisis this is in spite of the fact that Côte d'Ivoire has not ratified the Rome Statute establishing the ICC.

This procedure is made possible because in 2003 the government of Laurent Gbagbo had accepted the jurisdiction of the ICC, which was subsequently confirmed by the current president Alassane Ouattara.

The prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo is sending several teams of investigators to the Ivory Coast to collect information and evidence related to the information already available at the ICC. If sufficient evidence is obtained, then those who bear the greatest responsibility will be brought before the ICC in The Hague.
