Rwanda has volunteered to try the former Chadian president following the last AU summit held in Malabo. The African Union and the Rwandan authorities have initiated discussions in this regard.
However, victims of Habré’s regime, continue to hope for extradition to Belgium, where a trial could be organized quickly. A first request by the Belgian authorities was rejected.
The former Chadian president himself has stated in the past that he is willing to appear before an independent international justice system.
