Workshop
Details
In doing so, the OPDC has implemented a public forum series under the title of “MY BETTER COUNTRY HACKATHON” for 12 times. The series aims at collecting people’s opinions for public sector development and providing a platform for sharing experiences and ideas. There have been over 1,000 participants attending this forum series. Over 73 models/prototypes were proposed by participants for the OPDC to expand further and convey to related state agencies. Among them, there are 48 that have been actualised and truly implemented. Examples are models of the forest management system for the Royal Forest Department, the public motorcycle service enhancement for the Land Transport Department, the Chat-Bot for citizens to give clues or hints about drug dealing for the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, and etc.
In 2022, the OPDC with the support of KAS Thailand organized the 12th MY BETTER COUNTRY HACKATHON under the theme "Voicing Ideas for Transforming Public Services to Meet Citizens' Needs." The hackathon involved three partners, including the Office of the Prime Minister, the Office of the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, and the Department of Older Persons. It aimed to engage the public and various stakeholders in collecting feedback for the development of three government-related topics. These topics included: Empowering Older Persons, Social Welfare for All, and Government Hotline and Website 1111. This event attracted over 80 participants from various sectors, including students, private sector representatives, and government officials. The entire event spanned eight hours, during which six proposed models for developing public services were presented and discussed. All solutions are currently in the planning stage for collaborative implementation among relevant agencies.
To mobilise the Open Government in Thailand more effectively, inclusively and continuously, the OPDC therefore plans to organise a series of events in this year that will harvest experts’ recommendations and opinions from every sector especially the citizens for the public sector development. The event series will consist of many activities. First, two half-day workshops with experts will provide consultations about the current situations and the happening solutions. Then, a one-day hackathon will gather opinions, feedbacks, and suggestions from every sector related about social issue that affects everyone in society such as focusing on road accident prevention, which is a challenging issue of Thailand due to the high number of daily fatalities and injuries as well as significant losses in terms of property, time, and opportunities. Finally, another half-day workshop will compile all findings and ideas into policy recommendations for involved state agencies’ further innovative developments of the public services on the road safety issue. In addition, there will also be productions of PR materials and analysis report for this project.
With the above-mentioned, the HACKATHON DAY will be held on 11 November 2023 with the following agenda.
