It is generally possible to do a study-related internship in the office of the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Beirut. Before you apply, please take note of the following general information.

Contents

The aim of the study-related internship is to get to know the work of the Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa. The focus is on comparative constitutional and administrative law as well as international and European law, with a particular focus on the analysis of the constitutional criteria to be placed on state administration and jurisdiction. The selection of topics and emphases will be arranged through individual agreements; however, applicants should inform themselves in advance on the homepage about the work of the office and mention appropriate topics in their application letter.

Requirements

The internship is aimed at students who have completed at least their undergraduate studies in a legal or political science programme or who are in an advanced semester. Good language skills in German and English are expected. Competences in French and / or Arabic are an additional advantage. Furthermore, flexibility, capacity for teamwork, willingness to take responsibility and identification with the values of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation are expected. In order to achieve the greatest possible benefit for all participants, the duration of the internship should normally not be less than 12 weeks.

The Rule of Law Programme Middle East / North Africa does not grant any remuneration for the internship; all costs of living including rent as well as travel to and from the internship must also be borne by the students themselves. Applicants should therefore make timely efforts to secure funding. The staff of the Rule of Law Programme will assist in finding accommodation.

Application process

The application documents should include curriculum vitae in tabular form and a detailed letter of motivation for the internship, including possible key work areas. Suggestions should also be made regarding the period of the internship.

Due to the high demand, the application documents should be submitted at least 6 months before the desired period. The application procedure is informal and by email. Applicants are requested to contact Robert Poll.

Practical information

For German citizens, a passport valid for at least 6 months is sufficient for entry, with which one can obtain a visa for up to three months at Beirut airport, if this is expressly required. As a rule, this visa is free of charge, but this can change at short notice.
