During her stay in Germany, Yaddah engaged in a series of intensive discussions, many of which focused on the political situation in Uganda and the likely trajectory of the upcoming elections. In Bonn, she met with the Africa Department of Deutsche Welle to exchange views on the current political environment, the working conditions for independent journalists, and the challenges of covering elections. Particular attention was given to how the political climate shapes the room for journalistic work and what developments can realistically be expected as the country moves toward election day.
Her meetings in Berlin - including talks at the Federal Chancellery and the German Bundestag - also concentrated on Uganda’s political landscape and the anticipated outcome of the elections. Discussions revolved around the stability of existing power structures, the dynamics within the political system, and how these factors may influence the election results. Yaddah also spoke about the role of independent media in politically tense contexts, the importance of in-depth reporting, and the risks faced by journalists who strive to critically interpret complex developments. These themes were further explored from both practical and analytical perspectives during her exchanges with the newsroom of the Tagesspiegel and the specialist media outlet Africa.Table, where topics such as fact-checking, editorial standards, and regional media cooperation were addressed.
The highlight of her visit to Germany was her performance at the German Reporter Slam, where she appeared together with five German reporters. With a blend of humor, clarity, and personal insight, she captivated the audience and demonstrated just how vital independent journalistic voices are - especially in politically sensitive times.
