Croatian Journalist Threatened for Report on African Refugee

By Sven Milekic | BIRN Zagreb Maja Sever, a reporter for public broadcaster Croatian Radio-Television, HRT, received a death threat via Facebook Messenger late on Sunday night over the report on the African refugee, news site Index reported on Monday.“A day will come when we’ll execute you, you piece of trash,” wrote the person who sent the threat, whose name has not yet been confirmed by police. The message insulted and threatened Sever for her report last week on Prince Wale Soniyiki, a refugee from Nigeria, who came to Croatian in 2011 and recently opened a restaurant serving African cuisine in Zagreb. It accused Sever of promoting “freemason ‘multiculti’ politics” in Croatia, by doing a report about a refugee from Africa launching a restaurant while “thousands of Croats leave the country”.Sever told Index that she has informed the police about the threat.
