The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of President Aleksandar Vučić won an absolute majority and will be by far the biggest party group in the newly elected National Assembly. 📊 The newly formed opposition list “Serbia against violence”, which has been founded after the mass protests in the country earlier this year, came in second with 23,5% of the votes. Other political parties, such as the socialists as well as nationalist parties, each received less than 10% of the votes. According to our Belgrade-based colleagues, the new majority in Parliament will try to continue the path of European integration 🇪🇺 while maintaining substantial ties with other global players such as Russia 🇷🇺 and China 🇨🇳. The opposition reported around 500 manipulation cases (first and foremost in Belgrade) and will most likely not acknowledge the election as fair and democratic. An international observer mission will investigate these cases and publish a report within the next days.
Thank you very much to Jakov Devčić for the in-depth analysis from Belgrade and to more than 40 participants who joined the discussion and enriched it with their questions and comments!
