The effects of climate change are already visible and will become more apparent in the coming years. This makes it all the more pressing to forge political solutions that have a global reach and address the different stages of development, while at the same time being effective at a local level. Unfortunately, recent years have shown the considerable difficulties involved in reaching multilateral agreement within the United Nations, despite of the efforts of energy pioneers, such as the European Union. The next steps of this will become clear in the coming months.
