With regard to the current refugee crisis, the European Union has so far not been able to agree on a common approach. In the search for more effective approaches, some point to the Australian refugee policy. However, in order to assess whether the Australian approach can be a model for European migration policy, it is mandatory not only to look at Australia and short-term effects of this policy, but also to discuss the long-term effects on the entire region.
