Brazil in Focus 07/2026

In the August edition of Brazil in Focus, two articles address key challenges shaping Brazil’s public agenda. Humberto Dantas examines how the logic of party-electoral federalism continues to influence political alliances across the states, showing that, despite strong national polarization, parties still rely heavily on regional strategies and pragmatic considerations. Fernando Preusser de Mattos discusses the vulnerability of Brazilian cities to extreme climate events and highlights the need for urban planning, intergovernmental cooperation, and stronger institutional capacities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
