XXIV EN CB27

Important environmental events marked the Brazilian environmental agenda in 2021, representing as many challenges as opportunities. In this context for the tough defense of the environment and the cope of climate change, the Forum of Secretaries of the Environment of Brazilian Capital Cities (CB27) resumes its activities for the year 2022. This marks 10 years of existence of the Forum CB27 being a very special year and, therefore, its National Coordination and its institutional partners - Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Brazil and ICLEI South America - are preparing a special schedule of activities. Considering the priority theme and strategy for the Forum CB27 this year, of International Cooperation and Insertion for Sustainable Development, and the challenges presented in the context of solid waste management, the XXIV National Meeting of the CB27 Forum will be held together with the I International Conference Solid Waste (CIRSOL) and the National Meeting of ICLEI Brasil, both in Recife, from March 16 to 18, with the central objective of promoting a qualified debate on the topic of Solid Waste.

With the disorderly growth of cities and changes in the consumption patterns of citizens, political authorities and technical bodies of municipalities have faced challenges in recent years arising from these factors. One of the challenges is how to manage the material, substance, object or good that is discarded resulting from human activities, that is, how to manage solid waste. Therefore, we will debate with subnational governments, experts, academia, the private sector and civil society topics related to global sustainability agendas and facing the climate crisis, with circular development and experiences of sustainable solid waste management as central themes.
