Today, Brazil is the world's fifth largest emitter of greenhouse gases (GHG), registering a 9.5% growth in emissions in recent years, being driven mainly by successive deforestation and burning practices. This context shows how the country is going against global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The transition to a low-carbon economy is urgent, and this change is not possible without the engagement and commitment of today's political leaders. Considering the trend that trade and business should not be done at the expense of the climate, federal legislators and executives have the role, as well as the opportunity, to incorporate this agenda into their actions. Political leaders need to address this agenda not only for the ongoing national interests, but also for the economic impacts it will produce in their home regions and, consequently, in their own political trajectories.

With this in mind, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Brazil (KAS Brasil), RAPS and Insper are offering the executive course Climate Policy and Development: Pathways for Brazil with the aim of qualifying and enhancing the action of Brazilian political leaders on the climate agenda, from an economic and development perspective, connecting the subject to the current challenges of the country and the current discussions of the National Congress. The course will be held in person on July 27 and 28, at Insper's headquarters in São Paulo. At the end, it is expected that the participating political leaders will be aware and knowledgeable about the social and economic impact of climate change and a development based on sustainability, seeking to act together in search for concrete solutions to our main economic, social, environmental and political challenges. The event language will be Portuguese.
