Democracy in Crisis, Democracy in Change: From Popular Defiance to Citizen Participation
In partnership with L’Observatoire de la fonction publique et de la bonne Gouvernance (OFP) of the Saint-Joseph University in Beirut (USJ), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) is holding on the 14th of November, 2019, a conference on the challenge of participative democracy in Europe and Lebanon with the participation of politicians, experts and academics from Europe and Lebanon. The conference will take place at the Amphithéâtre Gulbenkian, Bâtiment A, Campus des sciences sociales, rue Huvelin, in Achrafieh from 09:00 am until 18:00 pm. Even today, democracy is still a struggle of citizens against abuses not only in countries with authoritarian rule but also in some Western democracies that are currently experiencing a crisis of representative democracy. Therefore, the conference will tackle the following topics: “Challenges and limits of participatory democracy “, “The Internet at the service of citizen participation”, “Innovative local experiences” and then try to show ways “Towards a real citizen participation in Lebanon”

Workshop “Women Economic Empowerment in rural areas”
The workshop will be offered by KAS as part of a series of events to boost women's economic benefits in rural areas. The aim is to promote the participating female entrepreneurs in the areas of financial management, marketing and branding and to network with each other. The theoretical part of the workshop will be complemented by practical exercises in which the participants will present their goods to a broad public.

Call for Applications Research Assistant in Lebanon
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), in cooperation with The Middle East Institute for Research and Strategic Studies (MEIRSS), seeks a full-time research assistant to play a key role in a project dealing with Lebanon’s National Defense Strategy. The aim is to support a research project analyzing the political situation surrounding possible negotiations over a defense strategy, both on a national and regional level.

Press Conference: The public survey on the economic and financial conditions in Lebanon
Between December 4th and December 13th 2018 Statistics Lebanon interviewed on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) citizens in all governorates and regions of Lebanon on their opinion on the Lebanese economy, the political situation and their financial self-assessment. Findings show personal views on Lebanon in times of omnipresent challenges.

The United States under Trump: Internal Dynamics and Repercussions on the Middle East
Since 2017 the United States’ strategy towards the Middle East Region has shifted. The Trump administration has generated worldwide attention by moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, cutting funds to UNRWA and announcing the withdrawal of its troops from war-torn Syria in late December 2018.

Workshop for the Lebanese Army - CIMIC
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Beirut and SMART Center, in close cooperation with and on the request of CIMIC, organized a 5-day workshop aiming at empowering army members by practicing non-violent communication techniques for effective conflict prevention and conflict resolution and at promoting civil-military cooperation within the Lebanese army.
