Exhibition
Details
In 2011 on her journey through Palestine, the artist Ulrika Eller-Rüter has collected so called shoe stories: she invited Palestinian women from the West Bank to tell the story of their shoes and thus to document their daily grievances and the hardship of their living conditions.
Together with silhouettes of the women engraved into iron boards, stories captured in the shadows of their reflections; and the photographic witnesses of life in Al Umbidyeh – somewhere in the desert between Bethlehem and the Dead Sea, the shoes are the central piece of the exhibition. They are the triggers recalling the struggle for girl’s education, insufficient health care and teenage pregnancies.
The exhibition will be opened by the former President of the European Parliament and Chairmen of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering. UNRWA Representative, Matthias Burchard, will provide further insights into the difficulties for women in the West Bank before the work of the artist will be explained by co-organiser, Dr. Lydia Thorn Wickert, from thornconcept.
