The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and Radio Free Europe discuss ways for future cooperation. In a meeting between the Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, and the President of Radio Free Europe, Stephen Capus, in Berlin, options for possible cooperation in Eastern Europe were discussed. Radio Free Europe is committed to promoting democratic values by providing uncensored news in countries where press freedom is under threat and disinformation is widespread.
The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is currently working on the future direction of its work abroad in Eastern Europe and Russia. In this context, a conference was held at the foundation's headquarters at the end of April with the employees responsible for the relevant topics abroad. As part of the workshop and in the context of the press coverage of recent weeks, it was emphasised once again that the foundation stands unequivocally on the side of Ukraine and firmly opposes Russian influence of any kind. Not only in Eastern Europe, but also in other regions of the world, the offices continue to deal intensively with the issues arising from Russian aggression, for example in the area of security policy, in terms of European unification, or with regard to hybrid warfare by Russia, such as disinformation or election interference. This will also require a continuous exchange on the situation in the countries with our offices in the future. It was also decided that the additional resources provided by the Federal Foreign Office, which are used by a large number of our offices worldwide, for example to analyse the influence of Russia in Africa and other regions or to document the personal stories (“oral histories”) of the Russian opposition in exile, will be coordinated from our office in Warsaw in the future.
