This book is a collection of articles by eminent theological and philosophical scholars throughout Asia. They are scholars of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam who have critically analyzed the above issues within their traditions from both the religious and philosophical perspectives. They bring together, under one roof, the valuable insights of the great religious and philosophical traditions on the issue of peace. Hopefully, the articles in this book will contribute towards building practical peace in Asia and beyond.

The main objective of this volume is to unravel the potentials of the religious and philosophical traditions for peace. It seeks to do so by asking questions such as:

  1. How do these traditions contribute to human wholeness and well-being?
  2. What vision of life do they offer?
  3. How best can we let that vision take hold of us?
  4. In what ways can we translate this vision into concrete terms?
By that yardstick, these religions and philosophies aim to reconcile that which is good and just to that which allows this climate of goodness and justice to prosper. Once a climate of goodness and justice is allowed to prevail, nations will enjoy economic prosperity due to improved political and social stability. That very quality allowing for the existence of goodness and justice is peace.
