This regional workshop on media and the right to development was conducted with the firm commitment to promote press freedom and the role of media in development. The seminar was organised by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in collaboration with the Press Institue of India. Journalists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka were present. The workshop is part of the KAS support for the Council of Asia-Pacific Press Institutes (CAPPI). The council is an umbrella group of the region's press organisations. CAPPI coordinates the training of the region's media practitioners. Ten press institutes from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Korea, Mongolia, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Fiji are members of the council. Topics were: Media Makes a Difference, with presentations by print, photo-, radio, TV and film journalists. Various issues on rights, such as justice, minority, dalit, food and shelter, grassroot democracy, gender equality and education were discussed. A visit to Tilonia, Rajasthan, to the Barefoot College, concluded the workshop.
