ANN Coordinators' Meeting - Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia
Workshop
Details
News exchange among Asian newspapers has brought about closer cooperation in news dissemination in the region, said Asia News Network (ANN) Chairman, Felix Soh. "There is a lot we have gained in this cooperation and our impressive record is closely watched by other regions as a model for their own regional partnership," added Soh, who is also the Deputy Editor of Singapore's The Straits Times. ANN is supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung's regional programme which focuses on the promotion of a free, responsible and ethical press in the region. Its Southeast Asian Regional Representative, Mr Wolfgang Möllers, told the coordinators that their challenges were greater now with the looming full-scale war against Iraq. He called for a concerted effort by all members towards the growth of ethical and professional standards in the media industry in the region. ANN is a network of leading Asian dailies. It was launched in March 1999 with the help of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. ANN facilitates the daily exchange of news among the dailies through the Internet. The network now consists of 13 members, with a combined circulation of over 12 million and a readership of 50 million.
