The annual Community Press Awards, the first and only awards programme of its kind in the Philippines, will be organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Philippine Press Institute. Launched in 1996, it is aimed at raising the standards for responsible journalism in the countryside. It seeks to honour news organisations not only for excellence in reportage, editorial content and overall design but also for their roles in their respective communities as development catalysts and chroniclers of events. There are five award categories: environmental reporting, business and economic reporting, editorial page, photo-journalism and newspaper design. The press forum will review more than a decade of workshops run by the Philippine Press Institute. A tutorial revolving around writing for weeklies, editing weeklies and newsroom management will be presented for discussion and adoption. Furthermore, the forum will consider possible new award categories, for example: Best in Peace Reporting, Best in Good Governance Reportage and Pioneering Civic Journalism.
