On 15th September 2025, the Asian Women Parliamentarians Caucus (AWPC) was officially inaugurated in the Parliament of Mongolia — a historic moment that coincided with the International Day of Democracy (as recognized by the United Nations), during the Inaugural Plenary Session of the State Great Khural, and in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Mongolia’s Democratic Revolution.
The inauguration brought together 15 Members of Parliament from 12 Asian countries and Germany, alongside Mongolian MPs, marking a significant milestone in regional cooperation to advance women’s leadership and gender equality.
This year’s AWPC theme — “Advancing Gender Equality through Economic Empowerment: Policies for a Sustainable Future” — set the tone for meaningful dialogue and exchange throughout the sessions.
The inauguration was graced by an Opening Address from Hon. Mr. Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, followed by a Special Address from Ms. Hana Becker, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mongolia. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Hon. Mrs. Bulgantuya Khurelbaatar, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia.
Later in the day, AWPC delegates visited the Headquarters of the Democratic Party in Ulaanbaatar, where they were warmly welcomed by party leaders. Discussions focused on strengthening women’s political participation, preparing women candidates for leadership roles, and advancing gender equality within political institutions.
Day 2: Policy Dialogue and Exchange
On the second day, AWPC delegates and Mongolian parliamentarians took part in panel discussions and workshops on women’s economic empowerment. Sessions addressed the gender wage gap, unpaid care work, and inclusive policies for women entrepreneurs, with parliamentarians from across Asia sharing best practices and Mongolian MPs presenting local challenges and reforms.
The day concluded with a dinner reception hosted by the Hon. Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia, offering delegates an opportunity to strengthen regional connections in a more informal setting.
Day 3: Women Entrepreneurs and the Cashmere Industry
The final day highlighted the vital role of women in business and industry. The delegation met with Mongolian Women Entrepreneurs at the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), where presentations featured MNCCI’s initiatives, the work of the Women’s Business Center, and inspiring success stories of women-led enterprises. The open discussion and networking session created valuable opportunities for collaboration.
Later, the delegates visited the Cashmere Industry in Khan Uul District, where they gained insights into Mongolia’s world-renowned cashmere sector — from production processes to sustainable practices and the craftsmanship that makes Mongolian cashmere unique.
A Shared Commitment
Across three days of dialogue, exchange, and learning, the AWPC established itself as a vital platform for strengthening cooperation among women parliamentarians across Asia. From the halls of the Mongolian Parliament to grassroots entrepreneurship and industry, the program reaffirmed a collective commitment to advancing gender equality, women’s leadership, and democratic values throughout the region.
