The initiative was officially launched on 16 January 2026 at Nic Academy in Kathmandu and brought together school students, teachers, parents, youth leaders, environmental experts, and representatives of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
Designed and implemented by KAS scholars, the programme focused on strengthening climate awareness among school students through interactive and age-appropriate learning. Sessions covered climate change, waste management, plastic pollution, and everyday adaptation practices, while also integrating child safeguarding, gender equality, and social inclusion principles. Students actively participated in discussions, shared their own experiences, and engaged with practical tools to better understand environmental challenges affecting their communities.
A key highlight of the programme was the formation of a student-led Climate Smart Club, reinforcing student leadership and long-term engagement. Climate-smart resources, including a weather station for climate data monitoring, waste segregation bins, and educational kits, were handed over to the school to support continued learning and action beyond the launch event. The strong participation of parents and school leadership further underscored the importance of community-based approaches to climate education.
The initiative demonstrates how KAS scholars are translating knowledge and skills gained through KAS study programmes in Singapore and Nepal into concrete, community-rooted action in support of the 2030 Agenda. By linking local school-based activities with a regional youth network, the Climate Smart School programme reflects KAS’s commitment to empowering young leaders as multipliers for sustainable development.
