With over 120 participants from state, justice, academia, and practise, the 3rd Criminal Law Conference in Cluj – organised by the Rule of Law Program South East Europe in co-operation with the German-Romanian Judges Association and the Law School at the University of Cluj-Napoca – was a great success.
Among the guests were several high-ranking representatives from justice, academia, politics, civil society, and practise, among them Secretary of State Dr. Rodica Constantinovici, MP Holger Haibach, Professor Dr. Valerian Cioclei and Laura Stefan.
Shortly after the government’s acknowledgment of the ministerial bills by the Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO) and the Criminal Code (StGB), the numerous participants were given the chance to discuss these reform laws extensively in the section “Current Development in Romanian Criminal Law”.
MP Holger Haibach from Germany had been invited within the section of “Criminal Law and Fight against Corruption” in order to speak about the German experience and aspects of this issue and thus to foster the international dialogue.
Also in the section „Influence of European Law on National Criminal Law“, the international dialogue was of primary interest. Professor Helmut Satzger as well as Frank Zimmermann from the University of Munich had been invited in order to illuminate experiences by the German legal system with the harmonization on European standards.
