Building Sustainable Partnerships for the Mekong Future

The Mekong Sub-region—comprising Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand—stands at a critical juncture amid shifting global dynamics and intensifying great power competition. As traditional partnership frameworks face growing challenges, questions arise about their continued relevance and effectiveness in today’s geopolitical landscape. To address these pressing concerns, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Vietnam, will host the Forum on "Building Sustainable Partnerships for the Mekong Future" on 26 September 2025 in Ha Noi.

This high-level forum will convene around 100 participants, including senior officials, diplomats, scholars from Mekong countries and international partner organizations. The discussions will focus on:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of current partnership networks
  • Exploring strategic interests and regional dynamics
  • Reimagining cooperation models to preserve sovereignty, autonomy, and regional agency

The Forum aims to foster honest dialogue and strategic foresight to ensure that Mekong partnerships remain resilient, relevant, and responsive to the evolving global context.
