Students simulate ASEAN meeting on the future of regional integration
On 19-20 April KAS and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam host a simulation game for Hanoi students. The simulation invites 20 students to take on the role of an ASEAN member state to defend their national interests and collective objectives in the interest of ASEAN integration. Topics to be discussed and negotiated will be regarding a fictional context on labour mobility, maritime security and refugee crisis. Interested students can apply through the application form or send in a short video with their motivation. The application form will soon be uploaded.

Independent assessment of Vietnam's macroeconomic policies
On April 11, the Viet Nam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR) in cooperation with KAS will present its research on Vietnam's macro-economy in the first quarter of 2019. The research will be commented on by famous Vietnamese economists and there will be a Q&A session for the press.
International workshop: "Vietnam in the UN Security Council: Strengthening partnership for sustainable peace"
On April 2nd, KAS in cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) organizes an international workshop to discuss the current situation of the UN Security Council, the relations of major countries and the role of non-permanent members of UNSC. The event also aims to support Vietnam in preparing for the upcoming election and activities at the UNSC.

Workshop ASEAN community: identity and centrality
On 19 March KAS and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam host a high-level workshop on the future focus of ASEAN and Vietnam’s 2020 chairmanship. The workshop will discuss the opportunities and challenges for Centrality and Identity in ASEAN, the roles of different stakeholders in a people-oriented ASEAN, and opportunities for Vietnam’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2020.

Training on verification and supervision of the State budget and local budget and dissemination of the State Budget Law
The National Assembly's Committee of Finance and Budget in cooperation with KAS will organise a training for delegates of the southern People's Councils on applying the State Budget Law 2015 in local context. The participants will also be armed with skills in supervising and verifying local budget.

Ocean Dialogue 4: Combatting Plastic Pollution in the South China Sea
On 16 January, KAS, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam will hold the 4th event in the series of Ocean Dialogue. Plastic waste in the South China Sea is a major concern for the environment, industries and public life. Experts from the region (Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia) discuss how to reduce plastic pollution as well as policy options for the countries at the South China Sea.

Quarterly Report IV/2018
Independent Economic Assessment
The Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR) will launch its quarterly report IV/2018 on January 10. Speakers of the event will be Dr. Kaufmann, member of German Parliament and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, VEPR President. Established Vietnamese economists will comment on the VEPR economic report. The event is supported by KAS Vietnam.

On 11 December KAS and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam will host Prof. Brantly Womark, from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics, University of Virginia. In his lecture, Prof. Womack will discuss China and the re-centering of Asia.

China Talk 10: Changes in China after the 19th National Congress
On 7 November, KAS and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam will organise the 10th China Talk. Guest speaker is Dr. Jaeho Hwang, Dean Division of International Studies at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Dr. Hwang will address Domestic context and foreign policy of China after the 19th National Congress.
