A new eight-member Cabinet took office in Greenland on 25 November. It includes four members of the social democratic party Siumut (S), two of the liberal conservative Atassut (A) and two of the socialist party Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA). Protracted negotiations in the wake of the general election on 15 November led to the emergence of the so-called Northern Light Coalition.

The members of Cabinet are:

Prime Minister and Head of the Autonomy Directorate: Hans Enoksen (S)

Family and Justice: Aleqa Hammond (S)

Housing, Infrastructure and Raw Materials: Jørgen Wæver Johansen (S)

Finance and Foreign Affairs: Josef Motzfeldt (IA)

Health and the Environment: Asii Chemnitz Narup (IA)

Fisheries and Hunting: Finn Karlsen (A)

Business, Agriculture and the Labour Market: Siverth K. Heilmann (A)

Culture, Education &Training, Church and Research: Doris Jacobsen (S)

During the next term the coalition partners have agreed on working on the following:

•Build the fundament for greater equality among the Greenlandic population

•Create a sustainable political and economic autonomy in Greenlandic society

•Strenghten the inhabitants influence on all levels

•Ensure the sustainability and protection of the environment as basic elements for the use our ressources.

The coalition partners have furthermore agreed on an ekstra dedication on families, children and handicapped.

The results distributed in mandates were

Atassut: 6 (19,1%), compared to 7 (20,4%) in 2002

Demokraterne 7 (22,8%), to 5 (16,1%) in 2002

Inuit Ataqatigiit 7 (22,6%), to 8 (25,6%) in 2002

Kattusseqatigiit Partiiat 1(4,1%), unchanged (5,3%)

Siumut 10 (30,7%), to 0 (28,8) in 2002
