Both the EU and the U.S. are central players in addressing global challenges, from climate change and cybersecurity to upholding a rules-based world order and public health. The 2024 elections on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean will undeniably shape how these issues are tackled among allies. For instance, the EU's ambitious climate objectives, which resonate with the Biden administration's priorities, could either be strengthened or face hurdles based on the election outcome. Similarly, shared concerns about cybersecurity, data protection, and economic ties, marked by significant trade and investment, might experience shifts. The potential for a U.S.-EU trade agreement, which would influence industries on both sides of the Atlantic, largely depends on these election results. Additionally, regulatory standards could either align more closely or diverge, impacting businesses in both regions.

Given the current circumstances, the Washington D.C. office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has published a paper (download on top of the text) aimed at illuminating the American political landscape. This effort seeks to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding next year's elections in the U.S. We look forward to discussing the topics and questions highlighted in the paper with our esteemed panelists, Ricardo Borges de Castro (EPC) and Paul Linnarz (Director, KAS D.C.).
