After Member States called for "a paradigm shift" and new innovative ways in migration policy to ensure asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected are effectively and speedily returned, the Commission answered this call by proposing a new regulation on 11 March 2025 replacing the current return directive. It is now upon the European Parliament and the Council to agree to the proposal. As operational details of the proposal are yet to be specified and while many aspects of implementation will be up to the Member States, the respect for fundamental rights and human dignity as well as the principle of non-refoulement as an expression of core European values are to be ensured.
We are delighted to welcome as expert speakers MEP Verena Mertens, member of the LIBE committee, Mauro Gagliardi, Member of Commissioner Brunner's cabinet, and Dalia Höhne from Diakonisches Werk Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe.
Closed-Door Event, upon personal invitation only.
