Achievements and challenges

In partnership with Highbridge Advisory, Chatham House, and the Decision Support Center of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Regional Programme Gulf States of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung will carry out a one-day workshop at Chatham House in London, United Kingdom. The workshop will examine Saudi Arabia's progress on its Vision 2030 as it reaches the halfway mark.

Over two days, 13 & 14th of November, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, organized a conference in Doha to discuss the economic diversification in the Gulf States.

Enhancing education in Kuwait through collaboration and community engagement

en.v launched the Kuwait coalition for educational reform in 2019 as part of its efforts to mobilize multi-sector change makers to effectively tackle systemic challenges through an inclusive, bottom-up approach. The Regional programme Gulf States at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has supported this pilot, making it possible for local students, educators, administrators and practitioners from 20+ institutions across the private, philanthropic, educational and civic sector to join together in this long-term collective impact initiative.

Challenges and Opportunities

The Regional Program Gulf States at Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, together with the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies held a two-day workshop on May 25th & 26th entitled “Economic Diversification in the Gulf States: Challenges and Opportunities.” The workshop, which brought virtually together scholars from Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Germany discussed fiscal policies in Oman and Kuwait, the role of the private sector and MSE as economic vehicles toward economic diversification, the level of women participation in the private sector in Kuwait, Germany’s FDI and private companies in the Gulf States, and the opportunities for closer European-Gulf cooperation in terms of economic transformation. In their opening remarks, Mr. Fabian Blumberg, regional representative to the Gulf States, Dr. Haider Saeed, director of the research department at ACRPC, and Dr. Hamid Ali, dean of the School of Public Administration and Development Economics welcomed the distinguished speakers and underlined the importance of the theme of the workshop for the Gulf States. The workshop was well attended and diffused live on the social media of the ACRPC.

Attended by experts, scholars and officials from Gulf States, Europe and the US, this workshop took place under Chatham House Rules. In the following, we summarize the debate and main outcomes.
