The aim of the project was to bring together public safety professionals, organisations and stakeholders in a single expert forum. The presentation was entitled "Public Safety and Democracy: Challenges for the Elected in 2022" and focused on regional perspectives on the topic of public safety and violence, with each of the invited authors attempting to present the current trends and specifics of their region. In addition, cross-regional challenges were addressed.
Following this opening panel, the participants of the forum were able to attend various thematic round tables. Topics such as violence against journalists, violence against women and sexual violence, environmental violations, new investigation methods to solve homicides in Brazil and organised crime were discussed. Among others, journalists from the association ABRAJI, KAS cooperation partner of the course for investigative journalism, gave lectures. Another highlight was the panel on illegal markets and violence in the Amazon, which included Raquel Dodge, former Attorney General of the Federal Ministry of Public Affairs, and Izabella Teixeira, former Minister of the Environment.
During the event, the "FBSP Seal of Innovative Practices" award was also presented. This award was intended for organisations, actors and institutions that introduced innovative methods in the field of ensuring public safety. This year, it was awarded in the category of combating domestic violence against girls and women. Each awarded institution had the opportunity to present their best practice examples. Here, the focus was on initiatives by the security forces as well as the work of multidisciplinary teams from different regions of Brazil.
