Between June 20th and 22nd the 17th Meeting of the Brazilian Public Security Forum, supported by KAS Brazil, took place in Belém do Pará. The purpose of the meeting is to bring together specialists, managers, students, police, military, and civil society representatives in a single space, engaging them in a deep and transdisciplinary discussion on the theme of Public Security in Brazil.

About nine hundred people attended the meeting in the capital of Pará and it is already considered - according to the CEO himself in his opening speech, Renato Sérgio de Lima, as the largest edition of the Forum. The ceremony counted the representation of the twenty-seven states of the Federation, which sent their representatives and secretaries responsible for the Security and Human Rights theme in their territories. In addition, the opening ceremony included keynote speeches by the Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship, Dr. Silvio Almeida, and the Governor of the State of Pará, Helder Barbalho.

The project's central objective is to reflect on Public Security as a tool to access fundamental rights. For this reason, Public Security must be faced with efficient public policies and managers, sustained with scientific bases and guided by the principles of Human Rights, so that its efficiency is increased and the condition of violence is overcome to guarantee life and peace.

Since this is an important theme for Brazil, and each region, state, and municipality has its dynamics, the event had twenty-seven simultaneous thematic tables, which debated issues such as racism, human rights, scientific database, investigation strategies, the mental health of police forces, use of force, etc.

KAS Brazil, since last year, has expanded the cooperation with the Brazilian Forum of Public Safety, because it is a very relevant space in the debate about public policy formulation and Human Rights. In addition, the meeting is an essential window for dialogue between different actors from the third sector, government, and specialists.
