Afghanistan in Transition: Reshaping priorities for 2015 and beyond

In cooperation with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Transparency International UK (TI UK) the Konrad Adenauer Foundation held three expert workshops on “Afghanistan in Transition” in London from November 2010 to April 2011. The results of the meetings were publically presented at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin on 13 May 2011.

German, British and European Perspectives

On 7 and 8 May 2011, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Oxford German Forum 2011 held the “Embracing the Shift of Powers” conference at Oxford Union. The distinguished participants of the four discussion panels focused on the question of how Europe will develop in a changing global order.

KAS-Vorsitzender Hans-Gert Pöttering in London

Der Vorsitzende der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und ehemalige Präsident des Europäischen Parlaments, Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, MdEP, hat am 5. und 6. Mai das Stiftungsbüro in London besucht. Er sprach dabei an der London School of Economics vor über 100 Studenten und interessierten Zuhörern. Zudem traf sich Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering mit dem deutschen Botschafter Georg Boomgaarden, Lord Chancellor und Justizminister Kenneth Clarke, dem ehemaligen Premierminister Großbritanniens, Tony Blair und mit Vertretern von Think Tanks und Akademikern.

Workshop “Born into Crisis: The Challenge of building effective European diplomacy”

On 4 May 2011, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Chatham House held the final of a series of three workshops examining the role of the European Ex-ternal Action Service (EEAS). The workshop examined three areas: what diplomatic lessons can be learned from the first six months of the EEAS and its response to events across North Africa and the Middle East; what the expecta-tions, choices and limitations of exter-nal cooperation and internal coordina-tion are; and what future orientation and objectives for EU diplomacy ought to be.

Afghanistan in transition – Governance, Counter-corruption and Development

Workshop

On 11 April 2011 the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in partnership with the Royal United Service Institute (RUSI) and Transparency International UK, concluded the last of three working group meetings on governance, counter-corruption and development in Afghanistan. The aim of the last workshop was to elaborate on recommendations set out at the preceding meeting, and to present recommendations with concrete instructions for national as well as international decision makers in Afghanistan.

„What does successful integration mean?“

The question of ‘successful integration’ was the subject of a roundtable discussion of experts, organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation London office on 30 March 2011 where Stephan Mayer MP, member of the committee of the interior in the German Parliament, Dr. Wolfgang Götzer MP and Eric Ollerenshaw MP, PPS to Baroness Warsi, participated. The meeting concluded that the notion of ‘successful integration’ differs largely in Germany and the UK.

Workshop on the Future of the European External Action Service and EU Foreign Policy and Security Policy

On 24 March 2011 Chatham House and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation held the second of three workshops on the European External Action Service. The second meeting was held under the title: ‘The EAS: Partnerships and Priorities for a new European Diplomacy’.

Jenseits Multikulturalismus: Islam in Europa und Euro-Islam

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Westminster University, der Frierich-Ebert-Stiftung und der Deutschen Botschaft in London organisierte die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung am 17. März 2011 eine ganztägige Konferenz mit dem Titel "Beyond Multiculturalism: Islam in Europe and Euro-Islam".

Workshop

On 31 January - 1 February 2011 the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) and Transparency International United Kingdom (TI UK) held a workshop on “Afghanistan in transition - Governance, counter corruption and development”. Over 50 security experts from British and German ministries, think tanks as well as international institutions, such as NATO and the UN, attended the second of the series of three seminars.

European Roundtable

Am 15.-17. Oktober 2010 fand das jährliche Europäische Rundtischgespräch auf Einladung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung statt. Im Mittelpunkt dieses Treffens stand die Entwicklung der Europäischen Union nach der Ratifizierung des Lissabonvertrags. Eingeladen waren wieder Politiker, Akademiker und Journalisten, diesmal aus Großbritannien, Irland, Deutschland, Spanien und Italien.
