2018 Annual Arms Control Conference and Experts Forum

Shifting Global Dynamics: Implications for Arms Control and Stability

From the 2nd to 3rd July, 2018 the INSS Arms Control and Regional Security Program (INSS) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) invited more than 25 high-level experts in the field of arms, arms control, disarmament and international security matters to Israel. These government and political decision makers, international academics, and technical experts from Russia, USA, France, England, Israel and Germany at the INSS institute in Tel Aviv, Israel cam to discuss the impact of the shifting global dynamics on Arms Control and stability for the international community.

Together with the Center for the Study of European Politics and Society of Ben-Gurion University in the Negev, KAS Israel organized a one-day study tour on the topic of “The Role of the EU in the Middle East” in Jerusalem on May 24th 2018.

Am 14. Mai 2018 durfte die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel den Ministerpräsidenten des Bundeslandes Sachsen-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, im Goethe-Institut Tel Aviv zum Rundtisch „Bauhaus between Dessau and Tel Aviv – Political Perspectives on the Shared Architectural Heritage“ begrüßen. MP Dr. Haseloff nahm als Ehrengast anlässlich seines Besuches in Israel die Gelegenheit wahr, sowohl für das Erbe des Bauhauses als auch für vertiefte deutsch-israelische Beziehungen in politischer wie wirtschaftlicher Dimension zu werben.

Über Offenheit und Haltung

Am 07. Mai 2018 hatte die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel die Ehre, Bundespräsident a.D. Christian Wulff zur Bucerius Lecture im King David Hotel in Jerusalem begrüßen zu dürfen. Wulff sprach über die Herausforderungen und Chancen multikultureller Gesellschaften und betonte die Bedeutung eines respektvollen Miteinanders für einen gelungenen gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt.

YOCOPAS Seminar

Youth Organized Collaboration for Peace and Sustainability

On April 27-28 together with the Eastern Mediterranean International School (EMIS) in HaKfar HaYarok, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) organized the YOCOPAS seminar, as a preliminary event before the annual YOCOPAS conference in October.

The Adenauer Young Foreign Policy Network

Meeting 1: The Current state of EU-israel Relations

KAS Israel launched a new workshop series on the topic of European-Israeli relationships: “The Adenauer Young Foreign Policy Network”. The participants included representatives from different European embassies, NGOs and think tanks, as well as journalists and scientists. Jonathan Miller, Director of the Department of Multilateral European Organizations at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave a lecture on EU-Israel relations and discussed the current state of this partnership and future challenges.

Together with the Tel Aviv Salon, KAS Israel hosted another event of the series “Ambassador Talk” on the 10th of April 2018 in Tel Aviv. Welcoming the head of the EU-delegation to Israel, Emanuele Giaufret.

Stolpersteine- A European Art Memorial

On Tuesday (April 11) project coordinators of the "Stolpersteine" project visited the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Israel. Dr. Anne Thomas and Anna Warda gave a closer look into the project initiated by the German artist Gunter Demnig. Stolperstein (stumbling blocks) are small, brass-made monuments reminiscent of the victims of the Holocaust. They are placed in front of the last self-elected house of the Nazi victims in the sidewalk.

Kick-Off Event

KAS Israel welcomes Dr. Ariel Muzikant to discuss the situation of the European Jewish Community who is facing a surge of anti-Semitism associated with the rise of right-wing populists.
