Group from Christian Democratic Party’s Youth Organisation Visits Ramallah

A delegation of the Youth Organisation (Junge Union) from Freiburg visited Ramallah on September 5th 2007 to get an impression of the political situation in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. The program was organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) office in Ramallah.

Support for Small-Scale-Entrepreneurs in Taybeh: Workshop for Marketing of Local Products

Supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), the municipality of Taybeh organised a workshop within the frame of the Oktoberfest on September 8th 2007. The participants were instructed in marketing of local products such as olive oil, honey, handcrafts, and other traditional Palestinian products.

Poor confidence in the Israeli and Palestinian leadership and small chances for the resumption of negotiations – those are the prevailing results of a Joint Palestinian-Israeli Public Opinion Poll that was conduced by the Truman Institute in cooperation with the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ramallah.The results were discussed at a workshop on the 28th of August, organized by the Truman Institute and the PSR.

At Nazaha Workshop: Prime Minister Fayyad Pledges to Enhance Transparency

More transparency within the financial system and regular reports to the public – those were the promises made by Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian Minister of Finance, who attended a workshop in Ramallah on August 20th 2007 on a report recently published by the Nazaha project, dealing with the allocation and distribution of funds by the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Launching Ceremony of the Coalition „NGOs Against Corruption“

The coalition “NGOs against Corruption” has been initiated by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and its Palestinian partner “Coalition for Transparency and Accountability” (AMAN) in order to enhance transparency and accountability in the Palestinian civil society and to support local NGOs in their fight against corruption. At the founding ceremony on August 30th 2007, the names of the 92 participating NGOs have been publicly read out.

Large Number of Palestinian NGOs Sign Code of Conduct

“The Code of Conduct was created by Palestinian NGOs for Palestinian NGOS and constitutes an important step towards more transparency”, stated Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung resident representative Thomas Birringer at a conference on the occasion of the completion of a Code of Conduct on Transparency and Accountability for Palestinian NGOs held on July 10th 2007 in Ramallah. Various representatives of NGOs in the Gaza-Strip took part in the meeting via videoconference.

Lawyers in Palestine: A Message-Bearing Profession

Being a lawyer is a mission and not merely a profession. This saying turns out to be especially true in the Palestinian territories as shown in a lecture titled “Palestinian Bar Association and Legal Profession: Reality and Prospects” held on June 23rd 2007 in cooperation with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung as part of the Legal Encounter Series at the Birzeit University’s Institute of Law.

Opening of the Refugee Movie Festival

In the presence of numerous representatives of the public life, of politics and culture, the film festival about Refugees was opened by Al-Kasaba and KAS on May 24th 2007.

“Germany has a clear interest on bringing peace to the region“, these where the introductory words of Dr. Ralf Brauksiepe, MP, at his lecture at the Institute of Law (IoL) of Birzeit University. This lecture with the title “Germany's Role in the Middle East in the Context of the EU and G8-Presidency” was taking place within the framework of the lecture series “Legal Encounters” which is supported by KAS.

“All Politics Is Local” - Training Seminars for Local Politicians

All of the 32 participants of the training seminar courses conducted by the Institute of Community Partnership (ICP) in Bethlehem in cooperation with KAS Ramallah attended the final ceremony of the first course-period, where certificates were handed out.
