Falling Walls Lab Palestine
Falling Walls Lab Palestine was held for the third time this year and for the first time also in Gaza. On Sunday 16 June, the DAAD organised the event in Gaza together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Our head of office Marc Frings was the Falling Walls Lab on Saturday 15 June 2019 at the Birzeit University in the West Bank. The Falling Walls Lab in the West Bank was a collaboration between the DAAD and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit. The Falling Walls Lab is a platform for academics, aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals from all disciplines to present their research, innovative projects, social initiative and business models. Each participant has three minutes to present his work to the jury and other participants. Falling Walls Labs are being run around the world and the winner will travel this fall to Berlin to attend the Falling Walls Lab Final and attend the international Falling Walls Conference.

A delegation from the CDU Fraktion Schleswig-Holstein visits East-Jerusalem and the West Bank
This week we welcomed a delegation from the CDU Fraktion Schleswig-Holstein, including the state parliament president Klaus Schlie and Tobias Koch, speaker of the parliamentary group of the CDU in Schleswig-Holstein's state parliament. The program, which took place in East Jerusalem and Ramallah, included several briefings by many representatives of german institutions including our Country director Marc Frings and further discussions with Dr. Sari Nusseibeh, Nada Majdalani from EcoPeace Middle East, Issa Amro from Youth Against Settlements شباب ضد الاستيطان and Oliver Bridge from UNRWA.

A delegation of the German Federal Agency for Civic Education - bpb - is hosted by the KAS
On 14 May 2019 we spent the full day with a delegation of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). The program started with a briefing by our country director Marc Frings on the political and social situation in Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the West Bank. We then went on a tour with Moien Odeh through Kufr Aqab, a Palestinian neighbourhood of East Jerusalem. We could learn more about the complex and special realities of Palestinians in the city. In Ramallah, we met our long-standing partner Dr. Khalil Shikaki, founder and director of the Palestinian Center for Policy & Survey Research - PSR. The group discussed with him the social and political trends of recent years. The US-Palestinian entrepreneur Sam Bahour talked in an afternoon session about the very sensitive current situation in the region and brought the participants closer to daily life realities in the West Bank. We finished the day with a traditional Iftar together with Zack Sabella, Aseel Baidoun and Inès Abdel Razek in order to learn more about perspectives and hopes of young Palestinians.

IoL Legal Encounters
The Institute of Law at Birzeit University holds a legal encounter on land registration in Palestine with Mousa Shakarneh, a judge and chairman of the Land and Water Settlement Committee. The event, supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, features a discussion of issues related to the goals, accomplishments, and challenges to land registration in the West Bank.
