Tis early practice only makes the master: becoming a journalist means taking responsibility

Workshop on Investigative Journalism and E-publishing for Young Omani Journalists

Exploring in depth, uncovering irregularities, bringing deficiencies to the light – investigative journalism plays an essential role in the public debate. Media thereby build the bridge between society and politics. To make young Omani journalism students from the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) familiar with critical questioning and examining was the aim of the six-day workshop which took place in Muscat, March 13-18, 2014.

A cross-regional dialogue on economic growth

Is it possible for women to advance professionally and pursue a successful career in a country which even prevents them from driving? By organising a side event of the Jeddah Economic Forum 2014, the KAS Regional Office Gulf States looked behind the scenes of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and revealed that unseen by the world, Saudi business women emancipate themselves in this patriarchal society.

Young Omani entrepreneurs inspired by Germany’s economic model

Due to decreasing oil reserves and the increasing population, Oman focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a key role in reducing the economic dependence on oil and can pave the way for the integration of young Omanis into the labour market. Thus the question is: How can young Omanis find their way into freelance self-employment and which are the best methods to encourage these enterprises? Economic expert Guido Zakrzewski spoke about this topic during the sixth SME-Conference in Muscat and showcased the promotion of SMEs in Germany.

EU-GCC Regional Security Cooperation

Lively discussions, informative presentations and brilliant thoughts

While the European Union (EU) and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are seeking to broaden their cooperation to various sectors ranging from economic cooperation to energy, environment and scientific research, the scope for cooperation in the field of security still remains particularly large. This becomes highly salient in light of the many common challenges that the EU and the GCC face, such as energy and food security, the conflict in Syria and the fragile transition in Yemen.

Young Women in the Gulf Region in Need of Career Opportunities

About 70% of students in the Gulf region are female. Only a small fraction, however, makes the successful transition from the classroom to the executive floor. The situation in Germany is similar, as most of the leading positions within corporations are occupied by men.
