The Nationals "Back on Track"

New Zealand has held general elections on 14 October. The National Party led by Christopher Luxon seems to have achieved the most votes. Pending the counting of the “special votes”, they will form New Zealand’s next government.

NEW ZEALAND GENERAL ELECTIONS - New Zealand has held general elections on 14 October. According to the preliminary election result, the National Party led by Christopher Luxon has achieved the most votes and would be able to form the next government in coalition with its traditional coalition partner (ACT Party) by a small margin of 1 seat (61 of 121 seats, including 1 overhang seat). The final election result depends, however, on the counting of the so called “special votes” (including overseas votes). Following the death of one candidate, the final election result also depends on the outcome of the by-election to be held in the electorate. Thus, the National Party may, in addition to the support of the ACT Party, also depend on the support of the New Zealand First Party led by Winston Peters.
