Europa hat ein Interesse an stabilen Nachbarstaaten. Seit Beginn der politischen Umbrüche in Nordafrika Anfang 2011 gibt es deshalb zahlreiche Initiativen zur Unterstützung der Reformprozesse, die nach den politischen Umwälzungen in Tunesien, Ägypten und Libyen in allen Staaten der Region eingeleitet wurden. Effektive Kooperation setzt allerdings die Kenntnis der politischen Akteure voraus.

In Nordafrika sind nach dem „Arabischen Frühling” zahlreiche islamistische Parteien und Vereinigungen aktiv geworden.
