Over the past 7 years, Thailand’s Deep-South conflict is being branded one of the world’s most underreported armed conflicts. Currently with over 5,000 deaths and 11,000 severely injured, the number of violent incidents has been raised sharply with or without the notice from the world. Having been enforced with three sets of special law, 60,000 of armed officials being sent from the government to fight against the separatists are vested with virtually unchecked power. The situation has made the region becoming even more susceptible to mass violation of human rights by perpetrators from both sides: the separatist and the authorities.

Due to the deteriorating human rights situation resulted from the enforcement of such draconian laws, local human rights and law practitioners have established a pioneer program providing free-of-charge legal service targeting at indigent population in the region. The program has received a continuing support from the European Union (EU) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). These two legal handbooks are the crucial part of that aforementioned program aimed to provide a step-to-step reference and detailed procedure to practitioners at beginner and advance level. The comprehensive ‘how to’ guides have been designed by lawyers and paralegals working in the field and reviewed by local and international legal experts.
