Post-Election Political Analysis in the Federal Republic of Germany

Domestic Shifts and ASEAN-Thailand Implications

The Institute of Democratization Studies (IDS), in collaboration with the Faculty of Political Science at Chulalongkorn University (CU), has expressed a substantive interest in analysing the political developments in Germany following its recent national general elections that took place in February 2025. In partnership with KAS Thailand, IDS and CU will convene a seminar that brings together renowned German and Thai scholars to provide critical and comparative perspectives on Germany’s post-election landscape.

The seminar is designed for a target audience including academics, university students, political practitioners, and civil society representatives. To enhance accessibility and public engagement, the seminar will also be broadcasted online in a webinar format, enabling broader participation from interested stakeholders across the country.

It is anticipated that the dialogue and insights generated through this academic exchange will contribute meaningfully to Thailand’s ongoing democratic development by drawing lessons from Germany's experience. The seminar aims to stimulate thoughtful reflection, foster informed political discourse, and support democratic governance practices in the Thai context.

The seminar will focus on the following key areas, among others:

  • Germany's general election results and voter trends
  • The rise of right-wing parties and their influence
  • Coalition-building and integration within the new government
