The EU’s 2021 Indo-Pacific Strategy aims to promote regional stability and uphold ASEAN centrality, though implementation challenges persist. Germany’s active engagement - evident in its Indo-Pacific Guidelines and naval deployments - reflects a strong commitment to maritime security, international law, and multilateralism. Vietnam, with its pragmatic diplomacy and economic vitality, is emerging as a key partner in this context.
The event featured two thematic sessions.
Session 1: “Strategic Recalibration” explored how Europe and Indo-Pacific countries are adjusting to shifting geopolitical dynamics, including the implications of U.S. policy shifts, the pursuit of strategic autonomy, and shared threat perceptions.
Session 2: “Looking Ahead” focused on EU-Vietnam and ASEAN cooperation, highlighting opportunities in maritime security, digital governance, and the green transition. Participants emphasized the need for co-created sustainable initiatives to foster trust and long-term collaboration.
The dialogue reaffirmed the Indo-Pacific’s centrality in global geopolitics and Europe’s vested interest in its stability. It generated innovative partnership ideas while calling for a realistic yet ambitious vision. KAS Vietnam’s role in facilitating such platforms reflects its enduring commitment to multilateralism, peace, and inclusive development. By fostering open, forward-looking dialogue, KAS Vietnam continues to support resilient frameworks for regional and global cooperation.
