Prof. Dr. Claudia Nothelle from the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences in Germany delivered the Adenauer Media Lecture on “Fake News and Fact-Checking”, offering a timely and powerful reflection on disinformation in today’s media landscape. In her lecture she explored, how false information spreads and influences public trust. Addressing the current challenges, Nothelle invoked the words of the influential philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt: “The most dangerous state is not when people believe lies, but when they no longer believe anything at all.”

The Adenauer Media Lecture was part of the annual conference of the African Journalism Educators' Network (AJEN) in Accra, Ghana. Hosted this time by the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) in Accra. The lecture is organised by KAS Media Africa at various universities in Africa. Leading journalists and media experts from Germany are invited to give lectures.

The lecture was attended by journalism educators, media experts and journalists from fifteen different countries across Africa and Europe. It showed how AI and disinformation affect media systems not only in Africa, but around the world.
