The state parliamentarians exchanged views with American experts on media policy and possible solutions to polarization on both sides of the Atlantic.

Hermann Gröhe, Vice Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, former Federal Minister of Health and Vice Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung visited Washington, DC on the occasion of the World Health Summit Regional Meeting. He was accompanied by fellow Bundestag Member Dr. Georg Kippels, Member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development, the Health Committee, and the Subcommittee on Global Health.

Dimensions of the Transatlantic Economy, Innovation in Higher Education and Multilateral Cooperation

Visiting program in Boston, New York and Washington, DC with Professor Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers, former federal minister and former minister president of North Rhine-Westfalia, visited the United States from February 10th to the 17th. He met with experts from academic institutions and research organizations to take an in-depth look at US education and innovation. Rüttgers, a board member of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, held talks with business representatives, high-level political stakeholders and think tank experts about the transatlantic relationship in the light of the war in Ukraine and the state of the economy. Representatives of the United Nations, IOE and ILO discussed with Dr. Rüttgers current challenges and future opportunities to drive the dialogue on both sides of the Atlantic for multilateral cooperation.

Soziale Marktwirtschaft als Antwort auf globale Krisen

Ein Ausweg aus der Wirtschaftskrise führt nur über eine Rückbesinnung auf die Werte der sozialen Marktwirtschaft. Das war die Quintessenz eines Vortags, den Kardinal Marx im Rahmen seiner USA-Reise bei einer von der KAS mitorganisierten Veranstaltung an der Georgetown Universitiy hielt. Kardinal Marx sprach vor mehr als 70 geladenen Gästen über die globale Verantwortung, Wirtschaftskrise, die Europäische Union und die Notwendigkeit einer verstärkten Zusammenarbeit zwischen Europa und den USA, auch um gemeinsame Werte weltweit zu vertreten.

With the financial crisis has come a change in the political party landscape in the USA – the Occupy Movement pressures the Democratic party to acknowledge socio-economic challenges while the Tea Party demands the Republican party to reorder its priorities regarding. The phenomena of the reshaping of the major parties is not limited to the United States as was illuminated in the roundtable discussion on “Conservative Parties Staying Competitive: The Challenges of the 21st Century.” The featured guest speaker was Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers, former Prime Minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

“Auch wenn wir finanzpolitisch nicht in allem einig sind, verbindet uns doch eine gemeinsame transatlantische Zielstellung”, sagte der Ministerpräsident Sachsen-Anhalts, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, auf einer Veranstaltung, welche in Zusammenarbeit von KAS, dem American Council on Germany und dem deutschen Generalkonsul in San Franzisco stattfand. Ministerpräsident Haseloff sprach vor mehr als fünfzig kalifornischen Teilnehmern aus Wirtschaft und Politik.
