Defining a Role Amidst Domestic Reforms and Regional Conflicts

The Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung Jordan (KAS) and the Catholic Center for Studies and Media (CCSM) organized an international conference on the role of Christians in Jordan and the Middle East amidst regional conflicts and domestic reforms. Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rajai Muasher, the event brought together political, religious, academic, and civil society leaders to discuss the contributions of Christian communities to peace, stability, and interfaith dialogue. Emphasizing Jordan's commitment to coexistence under King Abdullah II, speakers highlighted the historical significance of Christians in Jordanian society and the broader challenges faced by Christians in the region, including issues of identity, religious freedom, and migration. The conference also acknowledged the important role of the Christian diaspora in supporting peace and reform efforts.

Building a Culture of Citizenship and Social Peace

On 22nd September 2025, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the KAS Jordan Office, in cooperation with the Jordanian Center for Civic Education (JCCE) and the Catholic Center for Studies and Media (CCSM), organised the conference “Civic Education and Religion: Building a Culture of Citizenship and Social Peace.” The event brought together academics, policymakers, educators, and religious leaders to explore how civic education and religion can jointly foster citizenship, inclusion, and social cohesion. Discussions addressed the ethical foundations of faith, the challenges and opportunities of the digital age, and the crucial role of schools in cultivating responsible and engaged citizens. The conference concluded with a shared call for a stronger synergy between civic education and religion to promote peace, shared values, and coexistence.

Das jähe Ende des Assad-Regimes nach Jahren des Bürgerkriegs kam für die meisten Beobachter unerwartet. Während der Sturz der Diktatur nicht nur unter vielen Syrern Wellen der Freude und Erleichterung ausgelöst hat, bleibt jedoch ungewiss, wie das Syrien nach Assad aussehen wird. In den Nachbarländern blickt man mit einer Mischung aus Hoffnung und kritischem Vorbehalt nach Damaskus und auf die neuen Machthaber um den Interimspräsidenten Ahmed Al-Scharaa. Die Perspektiven und Handlungsoptionen von zwei der wichtigsten Nachbarstaaten Syriens, Jordanien und Irak, standen im Zentrum des Außenpolitik-Roundtable von KAS und CSS am 13.02.2025.

The Multi-Regional Global Disability Pre-Summit 2024, held in Amman, Jordan, on November 13–14 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mired Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, galvanised global efforts for advancing the rights of people with disabilities and inclusion ahead of the Global Disability Summit in Berlin. Bringing together diverse voices from across the globe, the summit tackled urgent priorities such as inclusive education, accessible workplaces, equitable urban design, and political empowerment for persons with disabilities. By fostering bold collaboration and driving innovative solutions, the event amplified the voices of those it aimed to empower and set a powerful agenda for building a more inclusive, equitable world.

Im Hinblick auf die bevorstehenden Parlamentswahlen haben das KAS Jordanien Büro und der Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) eine Jugendakademie ins Leben gerufen, die im Rahmen dreier Workshops einen inklusiven Dialog mit jungen Jordanierinnen und Jordanier mit Behinderungen über die Bedeutung und den Inhalt von politischem, bürgerschaftlichem und rechtlichem Engagement ermöglicht.

Social Media Influencer nehmen zunehmend Einfluss auf die Entscheidungen und das Denken der Menschen. Während Jordanien auf die bevorstehenden Parlamentswahlen im September blickt, können Social Media Influencer eine wichtige Rolle bei der Stärkung des politischen Bewusstseins im Land spielen. Die von der KAS und Qased Training and Empowerment zusammen organisierte Workshop-Reihe zielt darauf ab, die große Reichweite jordanischer Influencer zu nutzen, um ihre jungen Follower zu motivieren, an der kommenden Wahl teilzunehmen.

Doch was für eine Rolle spielt das Verteidigungsbündnis in anderen Regionen außerhalb Europas und Nordamerika, dem sogenannten Westen? Welche Strategien verfolgt das Verteidigungsbündnis dort? Diese und ähnliche Fragen wur-den während der NATO Academic Competition am 07. November 2023 in Amman von den jungen Teilnehmern thematisiert und diskutiert.

On the 4th of October 2023, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) Jordan Office, organized a dialogue seminar with Prof. Dr. Bernhard Stahl, a professor at the Chair for International Politics at the University of Passau. The seminar aimed to delve deeper into the evolving landscape of Germany’s foreign policy, exploring its interests, strategic tools, and far-reaching implications for the Middle East. Jordanian analysts and young professionals joined the discussion, adding valuable perspectives to the discussion.
