What an incredibly stimulating gathering! From 20 to 24 November, the Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) 2025 brought together the world’s investigative journalism community in Malaysia’s vibrant capital, Kuala Lumpur.
As KAS Media Africa, we were proud to facilitate the participation of eight African investigative journalists. Their presence contributed to what became the highest recorded attendance of African delegates in the event’s history. Representation matters - so do the stories, experiences, and tools emerging from the continent. A key takeaway echoed across the conference: investigative journalists share far more similarities than differences, no matter where they work.
This year’s programme featured a wealth of sessions addressing the surge of disinformation shaping today’s media landscape. Packed rooms and lively debates demonstrated the urgency of protecting information integrity and the critical importance of developing effective strategies to counter disinformation.
The conference welcomed more than 1,500 participants from 135 countries and territories - a powerful reminder of the strength of the global investigative journalism network. Gatherings like these are essential, offering journalists a sense of solidarity in what can often be isolating work. They reaffirm that solutions exist, that innovation is ongoing, and that collaboration remains one of the most valuable tools in the field.
We are already looking forward to the next Global Investigative Journalism Conference, set to take place in Amsterdam in 2027!
