KAS Media Africa proudly hosted the Local Journalism Conference 2026 in Salima, Malawi, bringing together journalists, editors, media trainers, and subject‑matter experts from across Africa and Europe for several days of insight, collaboration, and exchange.
The conference provided a platform to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of local journalism. Discussions focused on pressing topics such as media freedom, newsroom sustainability, digital audience strategies, artificial intelligence, trust in news, and the growing challenges posed by disinformation. Across all sessions, participants shared practical experiences and grounded perspectives reflecting the realities of reporting in diverse and often demanding environments.
