Editorial of the issue "Development, social security and sustainable economies"

A variety of factors contributes to a well-functioning welfare state: a strong economic performance, external economic relations and a broad social security system. In Germany, these pillars are established. Other countries, for example in Sub-Saharan Africa or in Asia, face the challenge to balance social security and sustainable economic management.
