The "Union for the Mediterranean" which was brought into being on July 13, 2008 in Paris received great media response in the southern and southeastern nations abutting the Mediterranean. However, the coverage which mainly consisted of cautious agreement also contained some scepticism. Overall, the new project does not raise high expectations.
