Pöttering: "Wir leben in einer Zeit der Hoffnung"

Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, Vorsitzender der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und ehemaliger Präsident des Europäischen Parlaments hat bei seinem Nahost-Besuch einen Baum im Kennedy Wald in Jerusalem gepflanzt. „Wer einen Baum pflanzt, denkt über den Tag hinaus an künftige Generationen. Ich möchte mit diesem Zeichen meine besondere Verbundenheit mit Israel bekunden und zugleich die Hoffnung ausdrücken, dass aus den großen Veränderungen im Nahen Osten viel Gutes erwächst“, sagte er nach der Zeremonie.

Yekkes and Templers

Tel Aviv would not be known as the “White City” today unless elements of German history and culture were anchored here. Today Israelis talk openly and with a growing interest about the German contribution to Israel’s history and culture. How did this Isreali-German dialogue come about? On June 22, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Jerusalem and the German Embassy Tel Aviv invited to the event “Yekkes and Templers”. The speech given by the Israeli-German author and journalist Dr. Gil Yaron, focusing on the German roots of Tel Aviv, was the highlight of the evening.

10 Jahre „Universitätsprogramm zur Förderung des Zugangs zur höheren Bildung für Negev-Schüler“

Im Sommer 2011 feierte das „Universitätsprogramm zur Förderung des Zugangs zur höheren Bildung für Negev-Schüler“ sein 10-jähriges Bestehen. Das Projekt, das im Schuljahr 2001/2002 von der Ben-Gurion-Universität (BGU) in Beer Sheva ins Leben gerufen wurde und seither wesentlich von der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung mitunterstützt wird, hilft gesellschaftlich benachteiligten Schülern aus der Negev-Region, Zugang zu einem Universitätsstudium zu erhalten.

The European Union: Facing New Challenges

On May 23 and 24, international scientists discussed the role of the EU and Europe in the age of economic changes and new challenges with regard to foreign affairs. The Symposium was arranged by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Adenauer Division of the Ben-Gurion University in collaboration with The Israel Council on Foreign Relations (ICFR).

EUStudynet International Workshop: “Teaching, studying, and researching the EU outside its borders”

How to teach, study and research the European Union and Europe outside its borders? This issue was focused on Monday, May 23, in the EUStudy International Workshop organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Jerusalem and the Adenauer Division of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. International scholars, lecturers and Israeli students reflected on European integration studies and discussed the promotion of interdisciplinary European studies in non-EU countries.

IPCRI STAT: "September and Its Economic Consequences"

The economic working group of the „Strategic Thinking and Analysis Team“ (STAT) discussed economic cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian Territories on Wednesday, May 25. The meeting of Israeli and Palestinian representatives was arranged by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Jerusalem (KAS) and the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI).

IPCRI STAT: "September and Its Consequences"

The “Strategic Thinking and Analysis Team” (STAT) met again last Thursday, May 19, to discuss the Quartet Parameters for peaceful Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. The meeting was arranged by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Jerusalem (KAS) and the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI).

Second Workshop on Comics and Politics: “Comics, Censorship and Freedom of Expression”

On May 16 and 17, the Second Workshop on Comics and Politics took place, focusing on “Comics, Censorship and Freedom of Expression”. Organized in collaboration with the Adenauer Division at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung welcomed international academics, publishers and Israeli artists. The lectures dealt with the development of artistic freedom in Europe as well as the treatment of socio-critical subjects in Israeli comics.

15. – 16. Mai 2011 International Workshop: "Human Rights and Precarious Work"

"Menschenrechte und prekäre Arbeit"

In cooperation with the Minerva Center for Human Rights at the Hebrew University, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized a workshop on "Human Rights and Precarious Work". During the two-day workshop, 22 experts - scholars and practitioners from different national backgrounds - discussed relevant questions on the subject.
