Madagascar: the magistrates renew the general strike

The Island’s courts have been closed since December 9, following the death of a magistrate who was a victim of police violence in Tulear in the south-west. This death is still the subject of many writings. The deputy prosecutor had been forcibly taken in by police, who questioned the imprisonment of one of their colleagues accused of collusion with local bandits.

Rwanda expects a non-suit from the French justice on the attack of former President Habyarimana

Louise Mushikiwabo, Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, that she is expecting the French justice to stop proceedings against the individuals close to President Paul Kagame charged in connection with the French investigation on the death of former President Habyarimana in April 1994 - considered one of the events that triggered the Rwandan genocide.

Laurent Gbagbo transferred to the ICC after the issuance of an arrest warrant

Former Ivory Coast president Laurent Gbagbo was arrested and flown to The Hague to face charges of crimes against humanity, for murder, rape, sexual violence, persecution and inhumane acts committed between November 2010 and May 2011 targeting civilians believed to be supporters of Alassane Quattara. This move follows the issuance of the warrant of arrest by the ICC.
